BREEDING horses in Minecraft is no easy feat and will require a bit of work.

Not least of all, you’ll need two horses to make the magic happen, obviously.

As Minecraft YouTuber Eccentric Emerald explains to UK Times, the most important part is that both horses are tamed first.

How to breed horses in Minecraft

To set things off, you’ll need to get your pair of gee gees in the mood with food.

This will require either two golden carrots, two golden apples, or two enchanted golden apples.

Remember, it’s not possible to craft enchanted golden apples, but if you have some gold bars, you can make golden apples or golden carrots.

Combine eight gold nuggets and a carrot at a crafting table to make a golden carrot. A golden apple calls for eight gold ingots and an apple.

Otherwise, all three can be found in chests.

Horse colour and markings

You will find 35 variants of horses up for grabs in Minecraft, but the only real difference is in how they look.

White, buckskin, flaxen chestnut, bay, black, dapple gray, and dark bay are among the seven colours to choose from.

There are also five patterns: no markings at all, stockings and blaze, paint, snowflake appaloosa and sooty.

For the most part, the offspring will acquire a mix of the parents’ but there’s a small chance they’ll be randomised.

Look out for donkeys too, they can be tamed and bred just like horses — with a little crossover.

How to grow horses

Now you’ve got all you need to set your horses in the mood, it’s time to make the magic happen.

“You can then right click both horses in a close area to one another with a golden carrot (crafted using eight gold nuggets and one carrot) and they will then create a baby horse,” Eccentric Emerald said.

The food item you choose has to be the same, you can’t mix and match.

Eventually, hearts will flutter above their heads before eventually disappearing.

You’ll then be left with a brand new baby horse.

Hold your horses – literally – before getting them to breed again.

There’s a little cool down break of about five minutes between breeding sessions.

“This also works with donkeys and horses to create a mule but mules themselves cannot be bred,” the streamer added.
